Saturday Game Highlights (2013/05/04)

KIA 8 - Nexen 4, Seoul (Mokdong)

Another sellout crowd in Mokdong as KIA fans continue to show up in huge numbers. This game marks the 8th consecutive sellout for games that KIA has played (Sunday will be number 9). The Tigers last played in a non-sold out stadium on April 25 in Changwon against the NC Dinos.

Nexen took the early lead in this game when Park Byung-Ho hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the 1st. The game went back and forth and the score ended up 4-3 in the 4th inning. In the bottom of the 4th, KIA ace Yoon Suk-Min entered the game to relieve starter Lim Joon-Seop. Yoon has been out with a shoulder injury and made his first mound appearance since October 2, 2012. Yoon will be a free agent after this season, and there is a lot of speculation that he may end in America pitching in the majors next year. Yoon pitched 3 2/3 innings, gave up 3 hits, including a solo homerun by Lee Taek-Keun in the top of the 7th to tie the game at 4-4. The tie didn't last long as KIA's Chae Hee-Seop hit a two run homerun in the top of the 8th, his second homerun of the game after a solo shot in the 4th. Choi has now hit 8 homeruns this season, tied for first in the league with SK's Choi JeongAnthony Lerew entered the game for KIA and earned the save pitching 1 2/3 scoreless innings. KIA scored 2 more in the 9th and the final score was 8-4. The series is no tied at one game each with the rubber match scheduled for Sunday afternoon.

Doosan 6 - LG 2, Seoul (Jamsil)

A sellout crowed showed up to see the game between the two Jamsil stadium rivals. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 5th when Doosan first baseman Oh Jae-Won hit a triple to right-center field to lead off the inning. He was brought home with a sacrifice fly by Kim Dong-Joo. Doosan would go on to score at least one run in each of the remaining innings. LG did not score until the 8th inning, but the two runs were not enough to catch the Bears. The series is now tied at 1-1.

SK 4 - Hanwha 0, Daejeon

SK third baseman Choi Jeong hit a two-run homerun in the top of the 3rd, his 8th homerun of the season. SK starter Chris Seddon pitched 8 scoreless innings, allowing only 3 hits. SK picked up their first win since April 27. Hanwha returned to their early season form.

Samsung 5 - Lotte 3, Busan (Sajik)

While not as bad as Friday night's first inning seven run meltdown, Lotte once again fell behind early, allowing Samsung to score three runs in the top of the 1st. Lotte was never able to catch up. Samsung now leads the series 2-0.
